The University of Ghana Rugby Stadium, Accra, hosted the 4th annual NFL FLAG Championship tournament on October 31 and November 1, 2025, bringing together top teams from across the country in a celebration of flag football.

The two-day tournament featured competitions in the Under 12 Co-Ed and Under 14 Girls and Boys divisions, with Nima 1 Basic School emerging victorious in the Under 12 Co-Ed division, Nima 1 Basic School winning the Under 14 Girls division, and St. Kizito Basic School taking the top spot in the Under 14 Boys division.

Nima 1 Basic School’s Under 12 Co-Ed team will represent Ghana in the NFL FLAG Africa Championship in 2026. With over 3.4 million athletes participating in NFL FLAG programming globally, flag football continues to experience rapid growth, and Ghana is no exception.

Since its launch in Ghana in 2022, NFL FLAG has expanded to 30 schools across the country, with Ghanaian teams representing their country at the International NFL FLAG Tournament at the Pro Bowl Games in 2023 and 2024. “The annual NFL FLAG National Championship tournament in Ghana has emerged as a stage for top athletes from across the country to showcase their passion for the sport in a competitive and fun environment,” said Afia Law, NFL FLAG International.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who have marketing rights in Ghana, supported this year’s tournament and have hosted additional flag activations and NFL game watch parties in markets across the country. Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Brian Asamoah, who is of Ghanaian heritage, has also been instrumental in growing the sport in Ghana, hosting a flag football camp and ‘scouting combine’ last summer.

The NFL and International Federation of American Football (IFAF) recently hosted a flag football coach education and officiating clinic in Ghana, welcoming coaches and officials from 10 African countries. As the official flag football program of the National Football League, NFL FLAG provides a structured opportunity for youth to play the non-contact version of American football while discovering the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendship.
