The National Sports College in Winneba has successfully concluded its four-day Sports Management and Administration Certificate Course, which ran from September 22 to 25, 2025.
The program brought together 85 participants from diverse backgrounds, including coaches, administrators, lawyers, doctors, referees, and retired referees.

Facilitators’ Insights
Dr. Austin Luguterah, Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, emphasized the importance of the course, saying, “The sports management administration course is a professional course designed for sports practitioners. We try to blend theory and practical knowledge and let them understand all. We all agree that this is the way to go.”

He added, “So sometimes we are trying to get people out of their old ways to the ways that are recognized worldwide, we want to go off the old ways to a way especially that is backed by research.”
Prof. Daniel Apaak, Associate Professor at the University of Cape Coast, added, “It’s been very insightful, educative. We are very hopeful that our participants are going to leave here with some new ways of doing things that will help improve our sports management and administration.”

Participants’ Feedback
Doris Delali Drah, a participant from the University of Education, Winneba, said, “This course has really related the theory to life to the practicals. It’s more of developing skills. So right now, you know how to manage a team or be an administrator of a team. The do’s and don’ts of everything about a team.”

Richard Oduran, a Nigerian coach, said, “It was a great privilege for me to come here to learn this course. I believe with learning this, I will go to more places.”

Maxwell Hanson, a Ghana Premier League referee, said, “I’ve learned a lot about sports management and administration, and I know I’m going to impact certain things after my retirement in football. I would advise my colleagues to upgrade themselves and to do more capacity building before their retirement.”

Coach Jonathan Akron said, “This course has really enlightened all of us in terms of current state of leadership and managerial issues. I’m really happy for this particular course.”

Eric Alagidede, General Manager of Great Olympics, added, “I think it’s been a very wonderful four days over here. It’s always important for you to refresh your memory and then even though a lot of the things they are teaching over here are things that we already know.”

Patrick Papala, a retired FIFA referee, said, “I will advise my colleagues not to wait till they retire, but they can start doing the competitive. By the time they retire, they have something.”

He added, “It has been superb but how to implement it is the problem. Will the club owners allow us to implement what we’ve learned here or we are still going to go the same old way?”

The Director of the National Sports College, Mr. Bawah Fuseini, expressed his satisfaction with the program’s success, saying, “The whole event has been successful. We will continue to do that as we develop the college.”

He added, “They were so happy. You could see their reactions during the picture session. We are going to give them more because we want to do the intermediate one, or this is the basic, we want to do the intermediate one before the end of this year.”
