The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, was invited as an observer to the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) 31st Ordinary Congress held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

After the Congress, Mr. Akpokavie expressed his admiration for the GFA’s organizational skills, describing the proceedings as “orderly and well-structured.” He commended the GFA’s robust structures, which he believes are a result of their experience and resources.
“The GFA is well-structured, with systems in place that have been developed over time,” Mr. Akpokavie said. “They have the resources from their own fundraising and from FIFA, which enables them to have well-established structures in the regions. They also have development structures in place for under-13 and under-15 teams.”
Mr. Akpokavie encouraged other sporting disciplines to emulate the GFA’s model, particularly at the regional levels.
“If you listen to the GFA president’s report, you’ll realize they’re doing many good things,” he said. “Other federations should attempt to put similar structures in place, even if they lack resources. It’s essential to have regional representation and development structures to identify and nurture talent from across the country.”
Mr. Akpokavie’s presence at the Congress highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among sports organizations in Ghana.
