The Director of Winneba Sports College, Mr. Bawah Fuseini, has revealed that the institution is set to undergo a massive transformation. Speaking on GTV Sports+, he emphasised the need to lift the image of the Sports College to become the best in Africa.

“Sports college is getting a facelift,” Mr. Fuseini said. “We just did a needs assessment with cost, submitting that document to the minister today or tomorrow for her to start the facelift. We want to make the Winneba Sports College the premier sports centre in Africa.”

The planned renovations include upgrading the guest houses to a 3-star hotel level and transforming the football pitch into a standard one. “They have a guest house. We want to make the guest house at a three-star hotel level. We have to make the football pitch very, very good so that every football match can be played there,” Mr. Fuseini explained.

The Winneba Sports College is also in talks with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) to train sports administrators and sports psychologists. “There’s a conversation between the college and the GOC to train sports administrators to also train sports psychologists. “Within the next two months,” Mr. Fuseini stated.

Additionally, the college is discussing with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to train officials, coaches, and administrators. “There’s another conversation between the college and the Ministry Sports department for us to continuously train sports psychologists, coaches, officials, and administrators,” he added.

Mr. Fuseini acknowledged that implementing changes can be challenging but emphasised the need for a strong administrative setup. “It’s not easy. Some people find it a bit difficult to undergo those kinds of changes. “We are trying to restructure the whole thing administratively,” he said.

The college has already begun some renovations, including resurfacing the grass and reconstructing the TAF football turf. “We are currently doing the pavement around the college, budgeting for the reconstruction of the TAF football turf. We want to do it at least to the CAF level,” Mr. Fuseini stated.

With these plans in place, the Winneba Sports College is poised to become a leading sports institution in Africa.
