The Accra Basketball League (ABL) organized a seminar on Friday, May 30, for stakeholders, including players, referees, coaches, team officials, and the media. The seminar aimed to refresh and educate participants on the game’s rules before the second round of the league.

Mr. Iddrisu, Vice President Technical at the Ghana Basketball Association and a FIBA instructor, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the laws of the game, highlighting technicalities and nuances. Dr. Eric Opoku Antwi, Vice Chairman of the ABL, shared insights into the seminar’s discussions.
“The key thing we went through was the rules of the game,” Dr. Antwi explained. “We have eight rules and about 50 articles that many people and teams need to learn. The whole thing encompassing the game of basketball is respect for each other.”

The seminar provided a platform for teams to raise concerns and address specific rule interpretations. “Teams brought out their concerns, and certain parts of the rules were addressed,” Dr. Antwi noted. “All in all, it has been a very educative session, and I believe more of these will help.”
The ABL organized the seminar in response to suggestions from league constituents after the first round. “Something came up during the commencement of the league, and it was a suggestion from the constituents of the league,” Dr. Antwi explained. “So, that’s why we decided to do it this time.”
The ABL plans to continue promoting fair play and education. “The way forward is also to have a refresher course for the referees,” Dr. Antwi stated. “We’ve also asked teams to forward cases and incidents where they feel needs to be addressed, and it will be worked on.”
