In a significant ceremony held at the Ghana Olympic Committee’s headquarters, Olympic House in Ridge, the immediate past administration led by Former President Ben Nunoo Mensah officially handed over office to the newly elected administration, headed by Richard Akpokavie Esq.

The handover ceremony marked a new chapter for the Ghana Olympic Committee, with the outgoing administration expressing gratitude and congratulating the incoming leadership. Former President Ben Nunoo Mensah congratulated the new president and his team, stating, “Mr. President, once again, congratulations, and thank you and your team for the ceremony. Symbolically, Mr. President, I officially hand over my office, which is the head of the organization, as well as all the documentation and emails and everything.”

The newly elected GOC President, Mr. Richard Akpokavie Esq, expressed his enthusiasm for the new chapter, saying, “Finally, the official handover has been done, so we are taking office. The board has already met, and we have taken a few decisions. Starting from next week, we will gather some information based on what we have decided in the short term to do. As I have always said, we plan to have a retreat to discuss a few things about the federation heads so that we can plan our path properly. The important thing is planning; once we plan, we have things.”

President Akpokavie also shared his vision for Ghana’s participation in the Olympic Games, particularly his desire to take the Black Meteors to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. “I want to be able to take the Black Meteors to LA 2028; that is one of the things, one of my desires. I want to take Meteors to LA 2028 so that we win a medal. There are many things we want to do, but the most important thing is to plan properly because funding is a huge issue, especially with the economic issues we have in town. So, we need to plan so that we can identify where we are going for funding. If not from the government, who is going to help us? And together with the federations, we can be able to resource for the funding and plan properly. Once we plan, be rest assured.”

The new administration is poised to take the Ghana Olympic Committee to greater heights, with a focus on planning, funding, and collaboration with federations. As they embark on this new journey, the expectations are high, and the Black Meteors’ participation in the 2028 Olympic Games is just the beginning.
