The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) leadership, led by President Richard Akpokavie Esq, attended a Thanksgiving Service at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Tema Community 1. The occasion provided an opportunity for the executives to seek blessings and good fortune for their next four years in office.

Reverend Father David Arko Amissah, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, congratulated the GOC executives and offered words of wisdom. “I want to congratulate you in a very special way,” he said. “You have been given the opportunity to be in charge of the Ghana Olympic Committee. It comes with many challenges, and many people are looking up to you. You must be ready and willing to stand up for what is right, so that generations will count on you and you will become a shining example for others to follow.”

The Priest emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “May God bless you so that you can work as a team. When everyone has passion and individual interests, it can be difficult to hold the center. But once you work together as a team and do not undermine each other, you will be assured of success.” He further illustrated the point by saying, “The strongest chain cannot be strong if one part is weak. You cannot become a strong team if all of you collaborate but one person does not cooperate or support.”

Reverend Father Amissah also prayed for the GOC leadership, saying, “We pray that God will grant you divine wisdom and divine grace, so that together, you will work as a team for the good of this country and for the name you bear. Families will count on you, and the church will be looking up to you, Mr. Akpokavie, because we know you will make us proud.”

In a gesture of goodwill, the GOC donated an undisclosed amount of money to support the church, as announced by Treasurer Evans Yeboah.

The delegation that attended the church service included:

  • Richard Akpokavie Esq (President)
  • Mawuko Afadzinu (1st Vice President)
  • Ernest Danso (3rd Vice President)
  • Kassim Mohammed Muniru (Secretary General)
  • Bawah Fuseini (Assistant Secretary General)
  • Evans Yeboah (Treasurer)
  • Nii Lante Bannerman (Assistant Treasurer)
  • George Lamptey (Board Member)
  • Kamal Sulley (Board Member)

They were supported by Christopher Essilfie, Philipinna Frimpong, and Shaaban Mohammed.

The Ghana Olympic Committee, through Treasurer Evans Yeboah, donated an undisclosed amount of money as seed money to enable the church to continue remembering them in prayer as they seek a successful tenure.

The Thanksgiving Service marked a significant moment for the GOC leadership as they embark on their new term, seeking divine guidance and blessings for a successful tenure.
