The National Sports For All Association of Ghana (NASFAAG) in collaboration with the National Sports College recently concluded an 8-day training course for 20 physical fitness instructors across Ghana. The course, which was held at the Winneba Sports College from April 6th to 14th, 2025, was divided into two groups: basic and advanced instructors.

The comprehensive training program comprised theory, practicals, examination, and assessment, and certificates were awarded to all participants who completed the course. Additionally, 2-year certification ID cards were given to the advanced instructors, bound on renewal after fulfilling specific requirements within the 2-year period.

Empowering Fitness Instructors

The Director of the National Sports College, Mr. Bawah Fuseini, who represented the Minister of Sports and Recreation, congratulated NASFAAG and the participants on their enthusiasm and energy during the course. He cautioned the participants not to rest on their laurels but to go out and impact what they have learned on others.

“It’s not only about coming here and going, it’s about learning to impact what you have learnt. That is the essence of being instructors,” Mr. Fuseini emphasized. “I know a lot of people who have made a good living as gym instructors or fitness instructors. I will encourage those who did the basic course to do well and do the advanced course, and those who have done the advanced course should also do well and move forward.”

The General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Mr. Shaaban Mohammed, also urged the participants to share their knowledge with others. “When you share the knowledge that you have, it will come back to you again because fitness is key,” he said. “Most countries don’t joke with training because if you are physically strong, no matter what, your country will definitely grow.”

The Importance of Impacting Knowledge

The President of NASFAAG, Nana Adu Mankata II, encouraged the participants to impact what they have learned on others and be good ambassadors of the association. He cautioned the advanced fitness instructors who have gained certified ID cards not to misuse the purpose of the card.

“The card is not to be used for any other thing but for fitness purposes,” he emphasized. “We are giving it to you for two years, and within the two years, it’s not a matter of going and sitting down. Before we renew this one for you, we want to know the gym, how many people you have brought to the gym, kit fit club, how many people you have helped in any other thing with the environment.”

A Commitment to Wellness

The Course Director, Professor Emmanuel Sarpong, took the participants through the whole course and gave them a comprehensive overview of physical fitness. He emphasized that fitness is not just about physical exercise but about promoting healthy living and wellbeing.

You have gained practical knowledge in measuring the key components of fitness, conducting press exercise assessment, and applying the principles of exercise prescriptions safely and effectively.”

Prof. Sarpong encouraged the participants to inspire others because they are now ambassadors of wellness. “You are no longer just participants, you are now ambassadors of wellness equipped with the knowledge and passion and tools to inspire change and promote healthier lifestyles,” he said. “As you step into the roles of instructors, remember that fitness is not just about the muscles or endurance; it’s about empowering people to live better, longer, and happier lives.”
