Former Ghana Olympic Committee General Secretary Richard Akpokavie, Esq., has announced his intention to contest for the presidency of the Ghana Olympic Committee in the upcoming elections slated for April 26.

In an exclusive interview with GTV’s sports presenter, Theophilus Sampah, Akpokavie shared his vision for the future of Ghanaian sports. “I’ve served as Secretary General for 8 years, and now I’m ready to take the helm as president. I want to lead the Olympic family in Ghana and help our sports move to the next level.”

Akpokavie believes it’s time for a change in leadership, stating, “The current leaders have done their part, but now it’s time for new blood and fresh ideas. We need a reset, and I’m convinced that I can bring the necessary leadership to move Ghanaian sports forward.”

As president, Akpokavie plans to prioritise the core values of the Olympics: excellence, respect, and friendship. “I’ll ensure that we strive for excellence in all we do, respect one another, and foster a sense of teamwork and friendship.”

Akpokavie also emphasised the importance of athlete representation, stating, “Athletes are our number one priority. They’re not currently represented on the executive board or at Congress, but that must change. We need to give them a voice and ensure that their interests are represented.”

With his wealth of experience and passion for Ghanaian sports, Akpokavie is confident that he can make a positive impact as president of the Ghana Olympic Committee. The elections are set to take place on April 26, and Akpokavie is ready to put his vision into action.
