The Ghana Weightlifting Federation will hold its elections on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium. The positions up for grabs include President, Vice President, General Secretary, Treasurer, and three executive members.

Incumbent President Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib Esq. (MP) will face off against challenger Mr. Michael Nii Yarboi Annan. Annan’s motivation for running stems from his belief that weightlifting has the potential to redirect the energies of Ghana’s youth towards a more productive lifestyle.
“I choose to contest for this position because weightlifting is an everyday sport,” Annan explained. “If well managed, it has the potential to instill discipline into our youth.”
Annan’s vision for the federation includes promoting weightlifting in second-cycle institutions and tertiary schools, as well as encouraging Ghanaians to take interest in coaching, officiating, and health/medical aspects of the game. He also aims to make weightlifting gyms accessible across the country.
To spread the sport of weightlifting across Ghana, Annan plans to embark on road shows and host major competitions in various locations. This will help Ghanaians appreciate the rules and standards of the game.
Notably, the position of Vice President will not be contested, as incumbent Isaac Tetteh is running unopposed. The elections will shape the future of weightlifting in Ghana, and the new executives will play a crucial role in promoting the sport nationwide.
