Aston Villa is nearing a loan agreement for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, with the transfer deadline looming on Monday. The prospect of working under Villa manager Unai Emery is reportedly a major draw for the 27-year-old Rashford.
Rashford has not played for Manchester United since being benched by head coach Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby on December 12. Amorim publicly expressed his disappointment with Rashford’s effort, suggesting he would rather give a spot on the bench to his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach.
However, Amorim later clarified that he values Rashford’s talent and believes the team would be stronger with him. Nevertheless, he emphasized that Rashford must meet the standards he demands from his squad.
Rashford has been with Manchester United since he was seven years old, making over 400 appearances and winning several titles, including the Europa League and two FA Cups. Despite his impressive record, Rashford has expressed his desire for a new challenge, and a move to Aston Villa may be on the horizon.
Villa has been active in the transfer market, signing Andres Garcia from Levante and Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund. They have also rejected an offer from Arsenal for striker Ollie Watkins and sold Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr for a potential £71m. Currently eighth in the Premier League, Villa is looking to bolster their squad for a strong finish to the season.
