Hon. Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation designate, faced the vetting committee on Thursday, January 30, and made a bold promise to deliver on his mandate. Adams, who was nominated by President John Mahama, expressed confidence in his ability to lead the sports sector, despite concerns that he may not be well-known in sports circles.

“I will not disappoint Ghanaians, and I will not disappoint His Excellency the President,” Adams assured. “I will deliver and won’t also disappoint myself.” He acknowledged that some people may have doubts about his suitability for the role, but emphasized that the majority of Ghanaians are supportive of his nomination.

Adams outlined his vision for the sports sector, which includes improving the maintenance culture of sports facilities. “We will not allow any facilities to deteriorate,” he pledged. He also expressed disappointment that Ghana did not qualify for the recent AFCON draw, but noted that the country’s armwrestling team had achieved success at the African Games.

To address the country’s sporting challenges, Adams promised to invest in sports like boxing and athletics, where Ghana has traditionally excelled. He also emphasized the importance of promoting an active lifestyle and providing opportunities for young people to develop their sporting talents.

With his confirmation pending, Adams is already thinking about the future of Ghanaian sports. If approved, he will be responsible for driving the development of sports in Ghana, and his success will be closely watched by the sporting community.
