On January 1, 2025, the Duku Festival, in collaboration with the Ghana Cycling Federation, organized the 2nd edition of the Duku Festival Road Race Prelude Para Cycling event at the Osu Castle Total Filling Station in Accra.
The event featured six divisions: Male Tandem, Female Tandem, Hand Cycling (male and female), and Amputee (male and female). According to Justice Awuku, Chairman of the Duku Festival Cycling Race, “We noticed that physically challenged individuals have been marginalized, so we decided to organize a special event for them.”
Awuku expressed satisfaction with the turnout and performance of the participants, highlighting the impressive display of athleticism and sportsmanship. “It was mind-boggling to see a blind person riding a bicycle. It was very interesting and competitive, so I think thumbs up to them.”
The chairman also called on corporate Ghana to support para-cycling, emphasizing the capabilities and talents of individuals with disabilities. “We can’t continue to marginalize them. We have taken it upon ourselves to organize this event every year, and we hope to do it on a bigger stage.”
Frederick Assor, a renowned para-athlete in Ghana who placed third in the competition, praised the organizers for creating a platform for persons with disabilities. “This event has taken a lot of stress off us. We come together, meet friends, have fun, and compete.”
Shaaban Mohammed, General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Federation, hailed the event as a resounding success. “The performance was amazing, and the prizes were impressive. We’re encouraged by the opportunities this event presents for para-cyclists in Ghana.”
The event was made possible by sponsors, including Dot Ateliers, Mr. D. J. Hyun, President of Derbywheel Incorporated, and the Association for Sports Federation On Disability (ASFOD).

The Male Tandem covered a distance of 42.5 kilometres
1st. Peter Dery Danvoru / Benjamin Boahen Agyemang with a time of 2.02.39.89 with a cash prize of GH 3,000.00, gold medals, and souvenirs from sponsors.
