The Ghana Cycling Federation is thrilled to announce the triumphant conclusion of the 10th Edition National Cycling Road Championships, held from Olebu Ablekuma Pokuasi Route on 30th November 2024. This landmark event brought together the country’s finest cyclists, who showcased their skill, endurance, and sportsmanship in an unforgettable display of athletic excellence.
Over one day of intense competition, 65 participants from across 5 regions of Ghana competed across multiple categories, including Elite Men, Elite Women, Under-23, and Junior men and women categories.
The championship featured a challenging course that highlighted the scenic beauty and demanding terrain winds of the Olebu Ablekuma Pokuasi stretch, providing a true test of strength and strategy.
Highlights of the Event:
The 30-year-old Francis Amu of the FCG cycling club claimed victory in the Elite Men’s category with an outstanding escape performance, completing the 100-kilometre course in 2 hr. 37 minutes 20 seconds at an average speed of 38.14 km/h.
Ellen Anim of Club Sky Team, dominating the 50 kilometres Elite Women’s road race and the 25 kilometres Time Trial, demonstrated exceptional stamina and strategy to secure her title with the time of 1 hr. 46 minutes 1 second with an average speed of 28.30 km/h and 47 minutes 3 seconds with an average speed of 31.88 km/h, respectively.
The sensational promising 20-year-old Emmanuel Sesi of the Royal Stars cycling club in the Volta Region placed 1st in the men under 23 and 2nd in the men elite road race of 100 kilometres with a time of 2 hr. 25 min. 10 sec. with an average of 38.10 km/h.
The 17-year-old promising junior cyclist of River Park Eastern Region, Farrakhan Shaaban Mohammed, won both the men’s junior category of the 62.5-kilometre road race and the time trial of the 25-kilometre race in the time of 1 hour, 47 minutes, and 14 seconds (average speed 34.97 km/h) and 38 minutes and 10 seconds (average speed 39.30 km/h), respectively. He successfully escaped from the peloton and maintained his advantage to cross the finish line alone. He shows his UCI training techniques to beat his opponent by breaking out at the first lap of the 6-lap distance of 62.5 km.
Farrakhan and Foster benefitted from the 2024 UCI athlete’s solidarity program in Cape Town, South Africa, last November.
The Under 23 and the Elite 25-kilometre time trial was won by Frank Love Quaye of The Boss Tribes (TBT) cycling club. He was crowned with two gold medals in the Men Elite and under 23 categories with the time of 36 minutes 3 seconds (average speed 41.61 km/h).
Fifty-six male cyclists and five females from twelve cycling clubs participated in the tenth anniversary of the annual championship from various regions of Ghana. The championships not only celebrated athletic achievement but also promoted the spirit of unity, encouraging fitness and the sport of cycling throughout the nation. The event drew more than 2000 spectators, including kids from the Sena Foundation School cycling initiative program, creating an electrifying atmosphere both on and off the course.

Plans are already underway for the 11th Edition National Cycling Road Championships in June 2025, promising even greater excitement and participation. We look forward to continuing this legacy of excellence and promoting cycling as a cornerstone of healthy living and competitive spirit.
The GCF focuses on its vision to develop cycling in Ghana with other partners, both local and international, including the Bahati Foundation. The Bahati Foundation invited six male cyclists between the ages of 17 and 24 years and two tandem to embark on a ten-day’ training workshop and competition in Los Angeles in preparation for Ghana’s participation in the LA2028 Olympic/Paralympic games. The 2025 year begins with a grand style of the 2nd edition of the Doku Festival Cycling Road Race Prelude, which features paracycling, including tandem and physical challenge cyclists, dated Wednesday, 1st January 2025, at Osu Castle Junction Total Filling Station from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm.
The purpose of organising the Para Cycling event is to promote the physical and mental well-being of persons living with disabilities to achieve the goal of self-esteem and reduce stress levels, discrimination, and stigma, said the organiser.
