Ghana Cycling Federation Wraps Up 2024 Season with Thrilling National Championship

The Ghana Cycling Federation brought the curtain down on its 2024 calendar with the 10th edition of the National Road Cycling Championship. The event, which took place on November 30, 2024, at the Vicolis Olebu, Ablekuma, featured individual Time Trials and Road Races in various categories.

In the women’s Under 23/Elite category, Annim Ellen from Team Sky emerged victorious in the Individual Time Trial, clocking 47:03 minutes with an average speed of 28.30km/h. Ellen also won the Road Race in the same category, completing the 50km course in 1:46:01 hours.

In the men’s Junior category, Mohammed Farrakhan Shaaban from River Pack, Eastern, won the Individual Time Trial with a time of 38:10 minutes and an average speed of 39.30km/h. Shaaban also excelled in the Road Race, winning the 62.5km event in 1:47:14 hours.

The men’s Under 23 category saw Sesi Emmanuel from Royal Stars take top honors in the Road Race, completing the 100km course in 2:37:29 hours. Amu Francis from FCG won the men’s Elite Road Race, clocking 2:37:20 hours.

General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Shaban Mohammed, expressed his excitement about the event’s success. “I’m very happy with the performance of our cyclists. Despite the challenges we faced in organizing the event, it was a huge success.”

Mohammed highlighted the need for seminars to educate club chairmen about the sport. “We need to organize seminars for our club chairmen to help them understand the sport better. This will enable them to provide better support for our athletes.”

Looking ahead to 2025, Mohammed is optimistic about the prospects for Ghanaian cycling. “Next year is going to be a very good year for us. We’re already making plans to participate in international competitions and to develop our athletes further.”

Results for the Individual Time Trial for Women Under 23/Elite:

  1. Annim Ellen from Team Sky completed the course in 47:03, achieving an average speed of 28.30km/h. She was awarded a flower from a sponsor, a gold trophy, and a national jersey.
  2. Sedro Erica from Team Sky completed the course in 48:27, achieving an average speed of 30.96km/h. She was awarded a flower from a sponsor and a silver medal.
  3. Tetteh Abigail from River Pack, Greater Accra completed the course in 51:00, achieving an average speed of 29.41km/h. She was awarded a flower from a sponsor and a bronze medal.

Results for the Individual Time Trial for Men Juniors:

  1. Mohammed Farrakhan Shaaban from River Pack, Eastern completed the course in 38:10, achieving an average speed of 39.30km/h. He was awarded a flower from a sponsor, a gold trophy, and a national jersey.
  2. Abudu Sadat from River Park, Greater Accra completed the course in 43:02, achieving an average speed of 34.86km/h. He was awarded a flower from a sponsor and a silver medal.
  3. Mensah Pious from River Park, Greater Accra completed the course in 46:00, achieving an average speed of 32.61km/h. He was awarded a flower from a sponsor and a bronze medal.

Results for the Individual Time Trial for Men Under 23:

  1. Quaye Princelove from TBT (Under 23) completed the course in 36:03:00, achieving an average speed of 41.61km/h. He was awarded a flower from a sponsor, a gold trophy, and a national jersey.
  2. Doevi Foster from Gladiators (Under 23) completed the course in 38:40:00, achieving an average speed of 38.79km/h. He was awarded a flower from a sponsor and a silver medal.
  3. Fiase Julian Selasie from TBT (Under 23) completed the course in 39:47:00, achieving an average speed of 37.70km/h. He received a flower from a sponsor and a bronze medal as his awards.

Results for the Individual Time Trial for Men Under 23/Elite:

  2. Akpali Victor Cudjoe from Gladiators (Elite) completed the course in 37:37:00, achieving an average speed of 39.88km/h. He was awarded a flower from a sponsor and a silver medal.
  3. Brownson Michael from Quik Steps (Elite) completed the course in 37:53, achieving an average speed of 39.60km/h. He was awarded a flower from a sponsor and a bronze medal.

Results for the 50km Road Race (4 laps) for Women Under 23/Elite:

  1. Anim Ellen from Team Sky (Elite) completed the course in 1:46:01, achieving an average speed of 28.30km/h. She was awarded a flower from a sponsor, a gold trophy, and a national jersey.
  2. Tetteh Abigail from River Park, Greater Accra (Elite) completed the course in 1:47:10, achieving an average speed of 27.99km/h. She was awarded a flower from a sponsor and a silver medal.
