Ghana Rugby Head Coach Marvin Chirume is optimistic about the women’s team’s preparation ahead of the Africa Women’s Rugby 7s tournament at the University of Ghana Rugby Sports Stadium from November 9-10, 2024.

Marvin Chirume, one of the continent’s top rugby coaches, praised the ladies for their progress since his arrival. “Training is going very well. The ladies are enthusiastic, and we’ve implemented a rigorous training program. They’re responding excellently; everything is falling into place nicely.”

Chirume acknowledged that this year’s tournament won’t be easy due to the participating teams and timing. “For the first time, Africa is hosting a 12-team women’s rugby 7s tournament, featuring the best teams, all peaking in their season. It won’t be easy, but the ladies are ready for the challenge.”

He believes Team Ghana can spring a surprise if they maintain their training momentum. “If preparations continue smoothly, with the necessary support and results, the ladies will deliver. You can see the impact of their preparation; they’re eager to perform well. As long as we maintain this pace, we’re expecting great games.”

When asked about Ghana’s tough group, Chirume replied, “There are no easy groups. Every group has strong teams, and ours is no exception, featuring Kenya, Madagascar, and Mauritius, who are rapidly improving. We need to perform at the highest level possible.”
