Accra Rugby Club defeated Oguaa Warriors 17-5 in Week 2 of the Ghana Rugby Club Championship 15s at St. Thomas Aquinas School Park, Accra, on October 26, 2024. This was the first game for both teams.
Accra Rugby Club Coach, Robert James Oram, expressed mixed feelings despite the win. “I was disappointed with our performance. We won, which is great, but I don’t think we played to our potential, especially in the first half. The second half was better, and our substitutes brought energy. There’s competition for places in the team, so hopefully, we’ll learn from our mistakes and improve next match.”
Accra Rugby captain, Riddick Alibah echoed his coach’s sentiments. “We won, but it wasn’t our best game. We’re still gelling as a team. We’re working on implementing our strategies, and hopefully, our next matches will be better. Kudos to the team and technical staff; our changes paid off.”
Oguaa Warriors Captain, Frank Yeboah, praised Accra Rugby Club. “They’re a tough side to play. But I urge our fans to stay resolute; we’ll make amends in our next games. We’ll do our homework and beat them.”
Oguaa Warriors President, Theophilus Appiah, reflected on the game. “It was highly competitive and tough. As the strongest team in the Central Region, we faced a formidable opponent. Accra Rugby also acknowledged our strength. We’re confident of winning our next game.”
