The President of the Ghana Golf Association, Leonard Kwaku Okyere, has debunked the notion that golf is exclusively for the wealthy. He made this statement during a workshop organized by the Ghana Golf Association to educate journalists about the sport’s terminology, technicalities, and rules.
Held at the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club in Burma Camp on October 25, 2025, the workshop consisted of two sections. The first section covered the basics of golf, including club handling, swing, scoring, and winning games. All 19 participating journalists took part in the practical exercise.
Facilitators guided the media around the course, explaining every aspect to familiarize them with the techniques for reporting on the sport. The second section focused on the theoretical aspects, including the history, rules, marketing, and promotional strategies to popularize golf in Ghana and attract corporate and government investment.
The President of Ghana Golf Association, Leonard Kwaku Okyere expressed gratitude to the participants and hoped that they would help promote golf to a broader Ghanaian audience. He emphasized, “I want to clear the misconception that golf is only reserved for the rich.” Okyere noted that golf can be played by anyone, citing his own decade-old golf club as evidence that the sport is not as expensive as perceived. He highlighted the numerous benefits associated with golf.
