The fitness landscape in Ghana has long been dominated by aerobics, health walks, bodybuilding, and weightlifting. However, industry players are now recognizing the limitations of this approach, and a new tide is turning. Functional fitness, which prepares individuals for everyday activities like carrying groceries, climbing stairs, or playing with children, is gaining traction. As they work to develop functional fitness as a competitive sport in Ghana, their focus is on educating the general public, from the grassroots up, about the benefits of this growing sport with international recognition.
The mission of Functional Sports League Ghana is gaining momentum, and they have announced two upcoming events. On Saturday, September 14th, 2024, they will be in the Central Region for a seminar on functional fitness, where they will share their expertise and passion with the community. Next, they will head to the Ashanti Region on Saturday, September 28th, 2024, for the qualifiers, where athletes will compete for a spot in the National Championship in November.
What’s more, functional fitness is a sport with no age barriers, making it accessible to everyone. They invite you to join them on their journey and volunteer with them to help spread the word and grow the sport.
