NDC Unveils Ambitious Sports Development Plans in Winneba for the 2024 Election Manifesto

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has outlined a comprehensive plan to transform the sports sector in Ghana as part of its 2024 general election manifesto launched in Winneba. The party has laid out several key initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, supporting athletes, and promoting various sports disciplines across the country.

Key Highlights of the NDC Sports Agenda:

1. Support for Football Development: The NDC plans to enhance the development of colts, division one, division two, and the Ghana Premier League by augmenting the salaries of all registered footballers with allowances.

2. Stadium Upgrades: The manifesto commits to refurbishing pitches and other facilities at national stadia in Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Cape Coast, and Sekondi to meet FIFA standards.

3. International-Standard Stadia: The party aims to pursue a long-standing policy of establishing international-standard Stadia in all regions.

4. Multi-Purpose Sports Facilities: There are plans to build more multi-purpose sports facilities to promote regional sporting events and inter-school competitions, integral to their talent development policy.

5. Equitable Investment in National Teams: The NDC promises to ensure equitable investments in various national teams, including women’s football, disability sports, juvenile teams, and other lesser-known sports.

6. Sports Education and Training: A significant highlight is the proposal to upgrade the UEW Sports College into a modern sports university, offering training programs in sports, sports medicine, science, and sports management with campuses across Ghana.

7. Sports Centres of Excellence: The party intends to establish Sports Centres of Excellence in the northern, middle, and southern zones, collaborating with existing universities and the private sector.

8. Support for National Athletes: The manifesto emphasises consistent support for national athletes to compete internationally, coupled with schemes such as post-competition careers and pension schemes to ensure their economic security.

9. Scholarships and Career Support: The NDC plans to offer scholarships to promising sports talents and support retired sports personalities in pursuing other sports-related careers after their active sporting lives.

By launching these ambitious proposals in Winneba, the NDC demonstrates its commitment to revitalising sports in Ghana, aiming for growth and excellence across various disciplines.
