One of Ghana’s finest distance runners, Ishmael Arthur, who recently won gold in the men’s 10,000m at the CAA Region II Athletics Seniors Championship at the Legon Sports Stadium in Accra, has been selected to be part of the team for the Africa Athletics Championship, which will take place in Douala, Cameroon, from June 20th to 26th, 2024.
Ishmael has expressed his excitement and gratitude for being selected to represent Ghana on such a prestigious platform. In an exclusive interview with obusports.org, Arthur said:
“Getting this opportunity to travel with the Ghana athletics team wasn’t easy, but when I saw the list, I was overjoyed. After 14 years of running in Ghana, I’m finally getting the chance to represent my country on the national team.”
“When I saw the list, I immediately called all my running mates and shared the news with them, and I was overwhelmed with joy. I am truly grateful to Almighty God for this incredible opportunity.”
“I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my coaches – Coach Moro, Coach Evans, and Coach Akuka William – for their unwavering support and encouragement. Thank you all so much.”
Ishmael Arthur is making his debut representing Ghana at the African Athletics Championship.
The championship also doubles as a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
