Team Ghana swept 25 medals in the just-ended Confederation of African Athletics Region II Athletics Championship at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Ghana won 10 gold medals, 9 silver and 6 bronze in the two-day Athletics championship.
The following are the athletes who won GOLD for Team Ghana:

Edwin Gadayi won the men’s 100m event with a time of 10.28s. Esther Obenewa also won gold in the women’s High Jump with a height of 1.79m. Ishmael Arthur produced a sensational run to finish first in the men’s 10,000m with a time of 28:11.79. Ghana’s female quartet – Deborah Acheampong, Janet Mensah, Mary Boakye, and Hor Halutie – electrified the whole UG stadium with a breathtaking performance to win the women’s 4x100m event.

Faustina Owusu emerged as the winner in the Women’s Discus. Kennedy Ocansey won gold in the men’s High Jump. Lariba Sakat won gold in the women’s 5000m. David Nakousi also won gold in the men’s 1500m. New sensation Mary Boakye won gold in the women’s 200m final. The men’s 4x100m team exploded in the final, giving over a 100m gap to the runners-up, Ivory Coast, to win gold.

Although Ghana won a lot of medals, none of the athletes met the Olympic qualification mark for Paris 2024. This means they have one more chance, at the African Athletics Championships in Cameroon, to qualify for Paris 2024.
