Accra Hearts has had a very tough season, battling to survive in the Ghana Premier League, lying in 15th position on the league table with just 38 points. Going into the week 32 fixture against Nations FC, placed 4th on the league table, makes it quite difficult. It was like a must-win game, so it can boost their chances of survival.
Hearts of Oak had an early opener through the Ivorian import, Cisse Kassim, in the first seven minutes from a pinpoint cross by Dennis Korsah. The second goal followed seven minutes later, at the 14th-minute mark, through a brilliant finish by Hamza Issah, raising his tally for the season to 13 goals. Those two early goals were enough to win, despite Nations FC trying to get at least a consolation goal.
Struggling Hearts of Oak’s gaffer, Aboubakar Ouattara, was pleased with the three points and said that getting the three points is the most important thing. So, they will be thinking about their next game, which is a local derby against Great Olympics, who are also struggling to survive. “We get the three points, and that’s the important thing. Now, we are thinking about the next match”.
Aboubakar Ouattara was asked, “Will Hearts of Oak survive in this season’s premier league?” and he responded, “We need to survive, and that’s the only thing I can tell you”.
Hearts of Oak will play away to Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium in week 33, and then they will travel to Bechem to play the last game of the season against Bechem United in the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
